Chickpeas are a type of legume in the same family as kidney beans and peanuts. They are type of Desi and Kabuli variety chickpeas. Desi variety in the Middle East and India and this variety are smaller, darker, and less round than Kabuli chickpeas.
The name chickpea comes from the Latin word cicer, referring to the plant family of legumes, Fabaceae. There is some difference between black and white chickpeas. In white chickpeas, there is more than 10 to 11% of protein than in black chickpeas. White chickpeas(Kabuli chana) is bigger in size than black one. But there is more fiber in black chickpeas than in white ones.
